The Lake Champlain waterfront is at your front
door, offering a wide variety of outdoor recreation
opportunities. Burlington Boathouse offers moorings,
a lakeside café and boat rentals. Nearby
Waterfront Park offers a lakeside boardwalk and
lawn areas for picnics and leisurely strolls to
Perkins pier and the Burlington Fishing Pier to
view magnificent sunsets and access to the seven-mile
lakeside bikepath for walkers, runners, bladers
and cyclists. The Echo Museum and Science located
on the waterfront delights adults and children,
encouraging a familiarity with the Lake and its
diverse ecology and inhabitants.
Church Street Marketplace and the Burlington
Town Center
Adjacent to the Westlake is the Burlington Town
Center mall featuring Filenes Williams-Sonoma,
Pottery Barn, and Starbucks with many other national
chains as well as boutiques. The mall connects
to the vibrant Church Street Marketplace a lively
pedestrian zone lined with shops, restaurants,
sidewalk cafes and coffeehouses and also lends
supports to festivals and parades.
Arts, Festivals and Sporting Events
Stimulating learning and cultural opportunities
as well as sporting events are available throughout
the seasons. Burlingtons art scene attracts
national acts to the Flynn Center for the Performing
Arts, Memorial Auditorium and local music clubs.
Festivals occur annually to include Winter Festival,
Mardi Gras, Discover Jazz Festival, Vermont Mozart
Festival, Burlington City Marathon, The Howard
Bank Criterian, South End Art Hop and New Years
Eve First Night Celebration.
Universities and Hospitals
Burlington is home to the University of Vermont,
Champlain College, Community College of Vermont
and St. Michaels College located in nearby
Colchester.
The Fletcher Allen Health Center in alliance
with UVMS College of Medicine, is a premier
academic medical center located nearby.
Ski Areas and Hiking Trails
Within 30 and 60 minutes are ski resorts and
hiking trails, including Stowe, Smugglers
Notch, Sugarbush, Bolton Valley and Mad River
Glen.
