From its location in South Burlington, the neighborhood at South Village has panoramic views of the Adirondack and Green Mountain ranges. Previously used for agricultural crops, Burlington area business leaders bought the property in 2005 with the aim of establishing a Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND). Based upon TND principles, the neighborhood features pedestrian-friendly design, with narrow streets, wide sidewalks, and homes with porches close to the street.
Over 70% of the 220 acres of the property has been permanently protected from future development. This land includes a 5-acre farm, 1-acre photovoltaic solar array, meadows, and wetlands. South Village has been approved for 334 residences in a mix of 159 single family and multifamily homes for a range of income levels to be completed in three phases. The Site Plan depicts the current progress.
